We got back from our trip to Arizona and New Mexico last Saturday...eight nights was the perfect amount of time away, this year anyway. I really needed a break, but I don't think I realized how burned out I was until we returned. After nearly four months of teaching without a break more than five days long, it was good to finally have time to clear my head. Read a book. Watch television. Journal and sketch. Hike and explore. Appreciate large expanses of sky. And on arrival back home, it felt good to be back.
Some highlights...
Sedona, AZ: An artsy town up against stunning red rock.
Grand Canyon, AZ: Believe the hype. It is absolutely beautiful, especially at sunrise and sunset.
Monument Valley, UT: Unusual outcroppings made famous in old westerns. Just had to take a quick trip into Utah for lunch and views.
Santa Fe, NM: Galleries, local food, and adobe. If I were to move to the Southwest and could afford it, I'd move here.
Tombstone, AZ: So old West. A far way from my New England home.
Funny. Last year, on our trip to Mexico and Belize, I was really into photographing my food for the blog. But I just didn't have the drive to on this trip. While I love blogging, it felt like too much work to pull out my camera all the time. For me to truly relax and let go, the camera stays put unless I must take a photo. Inspiration must call.
Do you ever force yourself to take photos (for a blog or album), or does it always come as an enjoyment?

Lovely photos. It must be good to see the things we see in movies for yourself.
On the question of photography, when on vacation I feel lost without my camera so its natural for me to try to capture as much as possible. I do find it a drag at home sometimes- I think "I should take a pic and blog that" but at home too many other things are screaming for priority so I put it off or forget about it.
I don't think blogging or photography would be enjoyable if either felt like an obligation.
Beautiful photos. What a fantastic trip.
