Menu at The Teahouse in Santa Fe. We sat outside in the sunny, fifty degree weather. Sure better than below freezing back in the Berkshires.
Usually when I travel, I love to photograph my meals. I often try exotic dishes, or come up with ideas of what to cook when I return home. But sometimes, the want to strike a photo just doesn't arrive. Sometimes it's due to embarrassment of photographing food, sometimes I don't want to think about proper angles and lighting. I just want to savor, and be fully in the moment.
A late lunch: mushroom and leek quiche with a Greek salad.
I've been realizing this about myself more and more: I go through hobby and interest phases, rather than have one or two that I hold onto for ages. Steve, for example, loves photography. He's constantly learning new skills, experimenting, reading magazines, and improving his photography. My friend Elizabeth loves to knit; she's gone from learning all the basics to designing and selling her own patterns.
Whereas I have tried numerous hobbies, depending on my mood or phase -- running, yoga, drawing, painting, photography, writing... I suppose I get bored by doing the same thing for a while. Or maybe it's being so entrenched in the multi-tasking of our current world.
Do you have one or two hobbies that are constants in your life, or do you try new ones after you become uninterested in an old hobby? Which hobbies have sparked your attention?

i like having a multitude of hobbies - it keeps things more interesting, i suppose. sometimes one or two take precedence over others, and after a while that might change. i try to just go with it. it makes us well-rounded!
also, i totally know what you mean about not always feeling inspired to photograph things. sometimes, you have to just be in the moment, and you don't need the camera to help you remember.
